The Good and Faithful Servant: The Road Less Traveled

Being a Christian is not always going to be easy.

God calls us to walk a different road than the rest of the world, and sometimes this road is a lonely one.

If you grew up in a Christian home like me, you probably grew up surrounded by other Christians. I was in church every Sunday, and went to a Christian school all my life. Pretty much all my friends were Christians. As I grew up more of my friends slowly stopped coming to church, and by the time I got to college many of my friends had stepped away from faith. If you haven't seen this happen yet, I promise you will. I hate that I have to say this, but it’s the sad truth.

For many people, their faith is not their own growing up, it’s their parents. Without a personal relationship with the Lord, when they get out into the real world and see the short term satisfaction offered by the things of this world, they are more than likely going to step away from faith and live of the world. It is absolutely heartbreaking to watch the people you care about and love, live a life you know they are not called to live. When this happens, love them, through it all, no matter what. You may be the only Jesus they see.

The road God calls us to walk, will often be lonely. There aren’t going to be many people around you walking and living the same way you are, especially in college. There will be Friday nights where you stay in, all alone. There will be times where you feel like no one is walking the same path you are. There will be times where you feel all alone, but I promise you are never alone. God didn’t call you to walk this difficult road, and then leave you all alone. He is with you every step of the way.

When this happens, when you feel like you're all alone in your faith, stay strong. There will be times where you are tempted to do what you know is wrong. It will seem like the fun and easy thing to do, and you will see people all around you doing those things. Leaving the path God has called you to walk may be the easy thing to do, but I promise it’s not worth it. I know the things of this world are going to give you temporary satisfaction and feel good in the moment, but at the end of the day you are going to be left feeling empty and longing for something to fill that void. The only thing that can satisfy the longing of your heart is the Lord. So when you feel all alone come to the feet of Jesus, and fall into His word. He’s got a plan for you.

1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” As Christians we are called to live a different life than the rest of the world. We are set apart and we are God’s chosen people, and

the way we live should reflect that. We live in a dark, dark world in need of Jesus, so live a life set apart and be a light that points others to Jesus.

One thing I always pray over my own life is:

“Lord let them see you in me.”

I pray that others see Jesus in you as well!
